STH created this 150,000 square foot Prototype Middle School design for use throughout the state of Florida. Designed around the Prime or House concept, this new state-of-the-art middle school design serves the needs of 1,207 students in grades seven and eight. In addition to typical academic classrooms, exceptional education, prevocational, agricultural, business education, diversified occupations and home economic classrooms are provided within the facility. Art, reading skills, and industrial arts laboratories, a dining room, kitchen, gymnasium with weight room, and associated physical education and administrative spaces are also provided. One of the primary objectives was to create a learning environment that students will find innovative and playful as well as mentally stimulating. The floor plan is flexible and provides access to the gymnasium, media center, and food service independently. The school was well received by the community and has been built for $7.00 per square foot less than the state average for similar facilities.
