Palm Beach Atlantic
University is well established Christian, liberal arts college located on downtown West Palm Beach's
waterfront. Although located in an urban setting, the scale of the school and its
surroundings have the appeal of a trusted environment. The residence hall, accordingly,
maintains the human scale of the campus. The four-story design utilizes soft arches at the
base, while circular details accentuate the cornice. Simple window openings and the roof
tile are in colors reminiscent of the existing architecture.
A primary objective
for the residence hall's program and design is student interaction and socialization. With
this in mind, the floor plan emphasizes two social wings which contain a total of seven
gathering rooms which accommodate from 32 to 36 students. Individual dormitory rooms have
been scaled appropriately to maximize social areas. Support amenities include kitchen and
laundry facilities, a centralized meeting room and game room. STH along with The
Weitz Company, general contractors, were commissioned to design and build Palm Beach
Atlantic College's new four-story, 120-room, 42,000 square foot dormitory / residence
hall. |
