The college of Arts and Humanities
is a contemporary three building campus center situated around a landscaped quadrangle and
terraced outdoor amphitheatre. Each of the three 25,000 square foot buildings provide a
major and distinctly different use, each its own visual expression. Featured are an Arts
Center with an Art Gallery, an Experimental Black Box Theatre, lecture hall, and various
art studios.
The two-story
Humanities Instructional Center, with its administrative and departmental offices and
seminar and conference rooms, functions like a typical office building and is situated to
the north of the quadrangle. The Performing Arts Center includes seven art department
studios with their various functional space requirements. Each studio can be opened onto
adjacent waterfront terraces or courtyards to expand the studio space. They offer a more
informal lifestyle for the faculty and students who work there. STH, in concert with
Edward Larrabee Barnes, provided full architectural design services. |
