STH designed this new multi-purpose
theatre / auditorium / lecture hall as a result of a significant remodeling and expansion
of an outgrown junior college auditorium. The main entrance is elevated to accentuate its
importance with a cantilevered canopy; the exterior blends with the existing campus
buildings. The theatre is a sculptural entity with dramatic shapes that reflect the uses
contained therein. Since it was
necessary to control the environment within and artificial lighting was a major
consideration, little glass was used in the design. Careful coordination with faculty who
use the facility and the services of a renowned acoustical designer ensured the hall would
properly accommodate drama, musical theatre, dance performances, orchestras, soloists, as
well as speakers. |
